Well。。。this one sure had quite the twists。 From who was currently killing people, to what happened to Solomon's helper, to the last little nugget of info we got right at the end。 The latter was especially jaw dropping, totally didn't see that coming and it makes a person wonder。。。can you be born evil, is it in the genes or can a person just tip that way。 I liked how Solomon worked through things, I even liked how he strong armed the judge when he needed to。 I hated what he learned at the end and Well。。。this one sure had quite the twists。 From who was currently killing people, to what happened to Solomon's helper, to the last little nugget of info we got right at the end。 The latter was especially jaw dropping, totally didn't see that coming and it makes a person wonder。。。can you be born evil, is it in the genes or can a person just tip that way。 I liked how Solomon worked through things, I even liked how he strong armed the judge when he needed to。 I hated what he learned at the end and how he feels like it was all his fault。This one really doesn't leave a person feeling good about things, yes the bad guy is behind bars, but so much other bad stuff happened。 。。。more
Doug Yonce,
Not sure whether it’s the characters or the plot that carry this story since both are very strong as the author has another hit on his hands。 Serial killer stories abound, but the main characters in this story make it work and make you keep reading。 I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review。
Patricia Mccammon,
Great start for a new series Great characters
Tonni Callan,
Unique Thriller I read a dozen or more thrillers a month。 It was very refreshing and different not read this one! It was not predictable。 Life is messy and full of tragedy。 This book depicts that all the while giving hope without a bow and white picket fence。
Bill Stout,
Secrets to the endFast paced thriller right up to the last pages。 This is the first book I've read by this author and not being a fan of attorney stories I will probably try one with different characters。 I like his style of writing so I'll just look for his other books, there seems to be a lot to choose from。 Secrets to the endFast paced thriller right up to the last pages。 This is the first book I've read by this author and not being a fan of attorney stories I will probably try one with different characters。 I like his style of writing so I'll just look for his other books, there seems to be a lot to choose from。 。。。more

A fast moving story mixing a mentally deranged killer with an aging attorneyThis story was page turned that went faster the further it went。 A deranged killer copying the acts of a previous deranged killer is pursued by an old physically challenged attorney。 Justice is finally served but then a surprise ending finally reveals why it all happened
Ronald G。 Meshurel,
Difficult to put down。 Excellent character development。 Easy to follow throughout with interesting twists and turns。 Surprise ending。 Enjoyed this from start to finish
AngieA,
I chose this as my free Kindle read because it sounded like a great premise but the kicker is that it takes place in Utah! Enjoyed getting to know Solomon Shepard and Billie Gray and look forward to book two in the series due spring of '23。 Although, I am wondering what more compelling crime than a serial killer author Victor Methos can come up with for Tooele; I've never considered it a hotbed of wrong doing! This premiere adventure for Shepard and Gray is riveting and I found myself going back to it at odd moments during my day just to see what might have happened while I was gone! Billie Gray is the pragmatic sheriff of Tooele County and Solomon Shepard is the "retired" prosecutor。 They work closely together at Gray's urging to solve what appears to be the return of The Reaper, an unsolved serial killer case from the past。 Well paced。 Good police work。 Excellent twist at the end。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

4。5 as the writer kept my interest up through the entire book。
Barbara,
Find the killer/Prosecute the killerThis book was different from Methos other books because of covering both parts, the search for the killer and then bringing him to court。 I did wish both parts where more involved。 Didn't seem to much thought went into either of it。 I felt the story was more about Solomon and his situation then bringing the killer to justice。 Solomon is definitely messed up, physically and mentally and I am going to get the next book only to find out how he is going to master Find the killer/Prosecute the killerThis book was different from Methos other books because of covering both parts, the search for the killer and then bringing him to court。 I did wish both parts where more involved。 Didn't seem to much thought went into either of it。 I felt the story was more about Solomon and his situation then bringing the killer to justice。 Solomon is definitely messed up, physically and mentally and I am going to get the next book only to find out how he is going to master his problems (and hopefully he does)。 。。。more

Michelle,
A very good Kindle freebie for June by a hit or miss author。 I’m a fan of his book, The Innocent Client, but The Killer’s Wife was a disgrace。The first installment of Shephard (a prosecutor) and Grey (a sheriff) in a small town in Utah。 Filled with twists and turns in the chase to catch a serial killer。 Be prepared for brutality。 Well worth a read。
Faith,
This book was a quick and easy read because you want to know who the serial killer is。 For me, the book completely falls apart about halfway through when the main character Soloman decides he wants to prosecute the killer even though he's a witness。 That never happens in real life and a lawyer turned author should know that。 And when a girl he knows turns up missing, Soloman, a supposedly intelligent prosecutor and sociologist, never seriously considers who is most likely to have done it。 Comple This book was a quick and easy read because you want to know who the serial killer is。 For me, the book completely falls apart about halfway through when the main character Soloman decides he wants to prosecute the killer even though he's a witness。 That never happens in real life and a lawyer turned author should know that。 And when a girl he knows turns up missing, Soloman, a supposedly intelligent prosecutor and sociologist, never seriously considers who is most likely to have done it。 Completely dumb。 。。。more

This was a "new to me" author and I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book。 I actually listened to most of this on audio and didn't have any issues with the narration。The plot revolves around a small town Sheriff who brings back a retired prosecutor to help her deal with a copy cat case。 The case of the original serial killer was one that was never solved and the prosecutor seemed almost obsessed with solving it and because of that the Sheriff thinks that he This was a "new to me" author and I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book。 I actually listened to most of this on audio and didn't have any issues with the narration。The plot revolves around a small town Sheriff who brings back a retired prosecutor to help her deal with a copy cat case。 The case of the original serial killer was one that was never solved and the prosecutor seemed almost obsessed with solving it and because of that the Sheriff thinks that he is the most knowledgeable on the key facts of the old case。 Apparently, the prosecutor (Solomon Shephard) was attacked by a defendant in the court room that resulted in his retirement - the prisoner stabbed him in his spine and he now walks with a cane。I did have a little bit of trouble with the fact that when we meet Solomon, he is home bound。 He has not stepped out of his apartment for a long time (he gets his groceries and food delivered)。 So, when he says yes, he immediately starts out in the field on an active investigation。 Seriously? The guy is afraid to leave his house (in fact he has a panic attack at the first meeting he has with the "team" ) but from then on, he is following a killer at all times of the day and night? Okay。The first half of this book follows the serial killer and then the second half deals with the actual trial。 I liked the combinationThere is a second book coming out in a couple of months from this series。 Will I be continuing on? Yep。 I think I will。 :) 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the copy of The Secret Witness。 As soon as I finished this book I went to see what other books I could buy from this author because this was an amazing book。 The writing made me not want to put this book down until I turned the last page。 I loved Billie and Solomon’s relationship。 I also loved how Solomon looked out for Kelly and tried to help her mom。 If you love twisty stories, this is the book for you。 I won’t give any spoilers but there was a LOT g Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the copy of The Secret Witness。 As soon as I finished this book I went to see what other books I could buy from this author because this was an amazing book。 The writing made me not want to put this book down until I turned the last page。 I loved Billie and Solomon’s relationship。 I also loved how Solomon looked out for Kelly and tried to help her mom。 If you love twisty stories, this is the book for you。 I won’t give any spoilers but there was a LOT going on。 If you don't love twists, the writing and the characters are enough to make this book a must read! 。。。more
